CAR T-cell therapy treatments

Our physicians and medical teams will explore whether CAR T-cell therapy is right for you and your unique treatment plan.

How CAR T-cell therapy works

We always want you to feel informed about your health. The CAR T-cell therapy process involves the following steps:

  1. White blood cells are collected through a procedure called apheresis.
  2. The T-cells are isolated from other blood cells.
  3. The T-cells are then modified to become “fighter” T-cells which recognize and target the cancer cells.
  4. The new “fighter” T-cells are reinfused into your body to allow tumor cell recognition.

Our CAR T-cell therapy program

CAR T-cell therapy, an exciting new treatment, has been tested in research trials for the past few years. This cell therapy will be introduced gradually, and is available only at centers where doctors and nurses are specially-trained and meet the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) accreditation standards.

The Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Center is proud to offer FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapy. Our comprehensive care team is specially trained in this therapy and can now administer it for adult diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. CAR T-cell therapy will be available for other cancers in the future.
