Blood cancer

Blood cancer occurs when stem cells in bone marrow make uncontrolled, abnormal blood cells. They keep your blood from fighting infections and slows excessive bleeding control. We have many treatments, such as chemo, radiation therapy and stem cell transplants.

Blood and marrow transplants

One treatment option for blood cancer is a blood and marrow transplant. This procedure replaces your abnormal stem cells with healthy cells — either from another part of your body (autologous transplant) or from another person (allogenic transplant).

When referred to our blood and marrow or stem cell transplant centers, you will be assigned a nurse coordinator who helps you prepare for each step of the transplant process. If an allogeneic transplant is required, additional testing will be performed to assist in locating a donor.
