Preventive heart care

Heart disease is often referred to as a “silent killer” as it can take years for symptoms of the disease to appear. Our doctors understand that the fight against heart disease starts with prevention. We use specialized computed tomography (CT) exams that can detect heart disease in its earliest and most treatable stages.

Heart conditions we treat

Our cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons treat a wide range of heart conditions, such as:

  • Aortic aneurysm
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Heart failure
  • Heart infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Unstable angina
  • Valvular heart disease

Cardiac services and treatments we offer

We offer specialized cardiac services for patients experiencing a heart condition.

Cardiac rehabilitation

Our cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to help patients recover after a cardiac event. During cardiac rehabilitation, patients will complete exercises under the supervision of our trained staff. The level of physical activity is gradually increased while the body’s response to exercise is monitored.

The goal is to help patients return to normal activities while ensuring the heart is responding appropriately. Cardiac rehabilitation can last from six to 18 weeks, depending on an individual’s specific needs.

Emergency cardiac services

When it comes to emergency cardiac services, including heart attack, time saved is heart muscle saved. Our physicians provide heart attack treatment times that are lower than the national average. This means we provide high-quality emergency services when you need them most.

If you think someone is having a heart attack, call 911 immediately.

Heart arrhythmia treatment

The Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute at St. David’s Medical Center provides access to prominent physicians and researchers. In addition to offering care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, we are dedicated to research and serving as a primary educational resource for physicians around the world.

Minimally invasive heart surgery

Our cardiothoracic surgeons offer an alternative to a traditional sternotomy (surgical opening in the chest), which provides access to the heart. Minimally invasive heart surgery offers much smaller and less invasive incisions to access the heart and coronary arteries, resulting in smaller scars and faster recoveries.
