St. David's HealthCare facilities among top 5% for clinical outcomes

Austin facilities named to Healthgrades 2023 America's 250 Best Hospitals

Austin, Texas — St. David’s HealthCare announced today that all of its Austin hospitals received a Healthgrades 2023 America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award™. This distinction recognizes hospitals for superior performance in providing care for conditions and procedures across multiple specialty services. St. David’s Medical Center (including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital), St. David’s South Austin Medical Center and St. David’s North Austin Medical Center were recognized among the top 5% of the 4,500 hospitals nationwide included in the assessment for clinical excellence, according to Healthgrades.

In addition to this national recognition, Healthgrades measured hospitals across 18 key specialty areas to identify the highest-ranking hospitals in 32 eligible states. St. David’s Medical Center (including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital) was ranked among the top 5 in Texas for cardiac care, cardiac surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery, surgical care, spine surgery, orthopedic surgery, joint replacement, and pulmonary care. St. David’s South Austin Medical Center was ranked among the top 5 in the state for critical care, surgical care, and orthopedic surgery.

“St. David’s HealthCare is proud of the nurses, physicians and staff who provide the highest level of care to every patient every day,” David Huffstutler, president and chief executive officer of St. David’s HealthCare, said. “It is because of their hard work and commitment that our facilities continue to achieve exceptional clinical outcomes.”

From 2019 through 2021, patients treated in America’s 250 Best Hospitals had, on average, a 28.7% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 31 rated conditions and procedures for which mortality is the outcome.* During the same period, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving the Healthgrades America's 250 Best Hospitals Award, 160,000 lives could potentially have been saved.
