Shockwave “Plaque Buster”

Heart Hospital of Austin, a campus of St. David’s Medical Center, will be a participating in an important clinical trial of Shockwave Medical Inc.’s novel lithoplasty ultrasound system for disrupting plaque in the calcified arteries. Dr. Roger Gammon will be the Principal Investigator overseeing this study. Shockwave intends to conduct the prospective, multi-center, single blind, randomized (1:1) study of lithoplasty treatment versus standard balloon angioplasty to treat moderate and severely calcified femoropopliteal arteries. A total of up to 400 subjects (200 per treatment arm) will be enrolled in the study at up to 60 sites in Europe, the United States and New Zealand.
