Heart Hospital of Austin names new chief nursing officer

AUSTIN, Texas—Heart Hospital of Austin has named Charles McCoy as its new chief nursing officer. In this role, McCoy will provide executive leadership to the nursing team at Heart Hospital of Austin, as well as oversee compliance with regulatory agencies and customer satisfaction.

McCoy joined Heart Hospital of Austin from St. David’s Medical Center, where he began his career as a graduate registered nurse—rising through the ranks to assistant chief nursing officer in 2018. As assistant chief nursing officer, McCoy oversaw the daily nursing operations of critical care, neurosciences, orthopedics, women’s services, NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), chaplains and palliative care. McCoy also managed nursing staff operations, productivity and informatics. Prior to his time as assistant chief nursing officer, McCoy served as a staff nurse, neurology charge nurse, house supervisor, director of clinical applications and director of nursing.

McCoy earned a master’s degree in nursing administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville University. He is Nurse Executive Board Certified and a member of HCA Healthcare’s Executive Leadership Development Program.
