Labor & Delivery

Our spacious Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) rooms provide a soothing and homelike environment. Warm colors, rocking chairs, private showers and soft light offer a comforting backdrop for labor and childbirth. All rooms feature the latest fetal monitoring technology. Systems that deliver medications and epidural anesthesia are discreetly tucked away, but readily available if needed.

If cesarean birth becomes necessary, fully equipped c-section suites are conveniently located to provide seamless care. For non-emergency c-sections, we encourage the father, partner or support person to attend.

Following your baby’s birth, we encourage family time. Our postpartum rooms provide the privacy you need to enhance bonding with your new baby. Postpartum rooms feature built-in sleep space for the father, partner or support person.

Neonatal / Maternal Transport Team

St. David’s HealthCare provides a Neonatal Transport Team, which includes a transport registered nurse and respiratory therapist who have specialized training in neonatal care and procedures. High-risk neonates are transported within a 150-mile radius to a St. David’s HealthCare Level III NICU.

A Maternal Transport Team is also available to transport high-risk expectant mothers prior to giving birth.

Transport teams are on-call 24/7 to transport via air or ground ambulance. Upon arrival at a St. David’s HealthCare hospital, the neonate or mother receives care from appropriate medical personnel including board certified maternal fetal specialists, neonatologists, obstetrician/gynecologists, anesthesiologists and other board certified physicians such as cardiologists, neurologists, pediatric surgeons, nephrologists or other specialists as needed.

Newborn Nursery

Our newborn nurseries provide a safe, secure environment when mom needs to rest. In most cases, babies stay with their mom for the first hour following birth, and then goes to the newborn nursery for initial assessments and the first bath. Once these essentials are completed, babies return to their mothers. Rooming-in with your baby is encouraged, but support and education are always available.
