St. David’s Surgical Hospital, a campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, today announced the opening of the facility’s new Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. The rehab unit relocated from St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and expanded from 16 patient beds to 20 private rooms. This move is part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center’s $145.9-million renovation and expansion announced this February.

“The relocation of our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit allows us to maximize the best features of St. David’s Surgical Hospital and aligns with our mission to provide exceptional care to every patient, every day,” Becky Barnes, chief operating officer for St. David’s Surgical Hospital, said. “Large, private rooms are ideal for longer in-patient care and rehabilitation after a procedure or illness.”

The new Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit offers 20 private rooms as well as a few guest suites for patients’ families, a 1,200-square-foot physical therapy gym and a rooftop terrace. An occupational therapy suite offers a tub, shower, toilet, bed, fully functioning kitchen and washer/dryer for patients to practice activities of daily living. The rehab unit will primarily treat patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputations, as well as orthopedic and neurological conditions.
