Dr. Max Shpak, Ph.D., Research Scientist at St. David’s HealthCare and Sarah Cannon Research Institute presents on Advances in Cancer Genomics at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School Diagnostic Medicine Grand Rounds. Dr. Shpak lectured on evolutionary models to understanding tumorigenesis and cancer progression with a focus on somatic selection of genes, and phylogenies of cell lines. Dr. Shpak’s research is significant because evolutionary models can be used to understand metastatic disease. His research indicates that gene expression profiles may be more reliable indicators of clinical outcomes for cancer patients compared to histological phenotypes.
