AUSTIN, Texas—St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, located on the campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, today announced the opening of the expanded Ronald McDonald Family Room with four new sleep rooms. The expansion provides more families with a comforting place to stay while with their children are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Texas provides vital resources and compassionate care to children and their families being served by Central Texas hospitals.
“We expanded the Ronald McDonald Family Room to meet the needs of our growing community of patients and their families,” Allen Harrison, chief executive officer of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, said. “Through our partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, we are keeping families close so they are able to be with their children.”
St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas currently has the largest volume of births in Austin, with 7,000 projected births this year. Among those children born this year, 600 have stayed in the NICU.
“The expansion of our Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas is crucial to keeping families close to their hospitalized children,” Carolyn Schwarz, chief executive officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, said. “With four new sleep rooms and other amenities, the Family Room provides families with the care they need while allowing them to stay overnight so they’re near their child.”
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas includes a small kitchen, snacks and beverages, a living room area, television, desk and an internet-accessible computer. The new sleep rooms will include furnishings such as a queen-size bed for parents who need rest, thanks to generous support from WAG-A-BAG and Ashley Home Store.
