St. David’s HealthCare to Open New Emergency Center in Cedar Park, Providing 24-Hour Emergency Care
Free, Community-Wide Event Will Allow Residents To Tour Facility, Learn About Medical Services
AUSTIN, TX — On Saturday, July 19, 2014, St. David’s HealthCare will celebrate the opening of its newest free-standing emergency center. The new St. David’s Emergency Center in Cedar Park—which will serve, as an extension of St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center— will soon begin treating patients with medical emergencies in Cedar Park and the surrounding areas. St. David’s Emergency Center is located just south of the Lakeline Market Center at 14016 North U.S. Highway 183. This is St. David’s HealthCare’s fourth free-standing emergency center.
“St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center is pleased to bring advanced, comprehensive emergency care to this growing community,” Deborah Ryle, chief executive officer of St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, said. “We have been providing quality healthcare to patients in Central Texas for many years, and the new center will allow us to bring the same level of expertise—as well as peace of mind—to the residents of Cedar Park.”
St. David’s Emergency Center in Cedar Park will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as a full-service, free-standing emergency department, staffed by board-certified physicians and nurses trained in trauma care. It will feature 12 treatment beds; a CT scanner; advanced testing capabilities, including radiological testing; and a medical lab. Patients requiring inpatient care will be transported from the facility to area hospitals.
St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center has named Robert Simpkins, M.D., as medical director of the St. David’s Emergency Center in Cedar Park. Dr. Simpkins has worked the past 16 years at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center and most recently served as the medical director of St. David’s Urgent Care Pflugerville, an extension of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. Dr. Simpkins is a faculty member of the Department of Family Practice and Emergency Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center in Round Rock.
Dr. Simpkins earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed his residency at R.L. Thompson Strategic Hospital in Fort Worth.
“Our staff has extensive experience providing quality emergency care, and we will be able to treat any medical emergency in a fraction of the time,” Dr. Simpkins said. “In an emergency, patients want exceptional, convenient care they can trust.”
Physician staffing will be provided by Capitol Emergency Associates, the group of board-certified emergency medicine physicians that provides care in St. David’s HealthCare emergency departments throughout Central Texas.
The community-wide grand opening event is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will allow residents of Cedar Park and surrounding areas to tour the new emergency center and learn more about the medical services it will offer. The event will also feature food and fun activities for families.
The new emergency center is expected to open in the next few weeks.
