AUSTIN, Texas—St. David’s HealthCare, part of HCA Central and West Texas Division, has named Roderick Carbonell, Jr., B.S.N., R.N., M.H.A., as the new vice president of physician operations for St. David’s HealthCare and the HCA Central and West Texas Division, effective January 2, 2016. In this role, Carbonell is responsible for leading the strategic direction, operations and financial performance for 150 employed physicians and 653 team members practicing at 48 locations across Texas and eastern New Mexico.
“Rod has a proven track record of successful leadership in physician operations,” David Huffstutler, president and chief executive officer of St. David’s HealthCare, said. “I am confident that he will be a great asset to the leadership team at St. David’s HealthCare.”
Prior to this role, Carbonell served as the assistant vice president for the Physician Services Group in Louisiana and Mississippi, part of HCA’s MidAmerica Division, where he oversaw operations of approximately 130 physicians, as well as relationships with seven hospitals. Carbonell joined HCA in 2009 as quality director and risk manager at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where he participated on teams that improved patient care and helped advance the hospital’s publicly reported quality measures. He also worked with HCA’s Physician Services Group as the market manager for Menorah Medical Center and Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Johnson County, Kansas. Prior to this, he served in various clinical roles within a number of healthcare organizations.
Carbonell earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, and he went on to earn his Master of HealthCare Administration from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska. He is also a member of the American College of HealthCare Executives.
