St. David’s HealthCare will launch a pediatric program at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in December—pledging an initial capital investment of approximately $16 million towards the program. The pediatric program will provide emergency, inpatient and intensive care for children.
“As the population of the greater Austin area continues to expand to the north, the need for quality pediatric services in the area grows with it,” David Huffstutler, president and chief executive officer of St. David's HealthCare, said. “In response to this need, we will provide families in this area access to pediatric services closer to their homes, giving peace of mind to parents should they find themselves in an emergency situation.”
St. David’s HealthCare’s pediatric program will include a dedicated 10-bed emergency department, an 8-bed inpatient unit and a 6-bed pediatric intensive care unit. It will feature established pediatric specialists, including pediatric hospitalists and intensivists, as well as nurses and a number of ancillary staff specially trained to care for children.
“As a hospital that promotes the health and well-being of women and their newborns at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, it’s necessary to provide families a continuum of pediatric hospital services,” Allen Harrison, chief executive officer of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, said. “With the launch of this new program, we are offering a choice to many who have expressed a desire to receive care for their children at a St. David’s HealthCare hospital, including parents of babies born here.”
