Our professionals are dedicated to preparing parents for the arrival of their new baby. St. David's HealthCare offers extensive Parent Education classes that can provide answers to all your questions about childbirth, baby care, breastfeeding, sibling relations, and much more.
Here are just a few of the classes we offer:
Lamaze Instruction – This program is recommended to prepare you for labor and birth. Both group and private instruction are available.
Newborn Care – This class covers all the basics of newborn care, discusses newborn characteristics and behaviors, and includes a question-and-answer session.
Breastfeeding Consultations – Our certified lactation consultants cover the advantages of breastfeeding, positioning the infant at the breast, length and frequency of feedings, how to tell if the baby is getting enough milk, and much more. Visit our in-hospital boutiques to shop for breastfeeding accessories such as breast pumps, nursing bras, and other related items available for purchase or rent.
Cesarean Birth Class - These individual classes are designed for couples anticipating a cesarean birth.
Sibling Education Class - This class appeals to children ages three to 10 years, who are often eager to learn about the new baby. It introduces them to newborn characteristics and the changes to expect when baby comes home. (Not offered by all facilities)
Pre-registration is required for most of these classes, so you should sign up well before your due date.
