St. David's HealthCare Facilities Receive Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award For Clinical Excellence™

St. David's HealthCare January 18, 2017

AUSTIN, TEXAS—St. David’s Medical Center—including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital—and St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center were recently recognized by Healthgrades as recipients of the 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. This is the sixth consecutive year for St. David’s Medical Center—including Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital—to achieve this distinction, and it is the second year in a row for St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center to be recognized.

This award recognizes facilities rated among the top 5 percent in the nation for treatment of common inpatient conditions and procedures as evaluated by Healthgrades, the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for consistent, year-over-year, superior clinical performance. The analysis is based on more than 45 million Medicare medical claims records available from the hospitals from 2013 through 2015.

This achievement is part of findings released by Healthgrades in its 2017 Report to the Nation. The report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally.

From 2013-2015, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence have, on average, a 26.2 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.
